Building a new habit is like filling a cup that's already full. We first have to eliminate an ample amount of old to make room for the new.

Instead of deciding to "find the time" to read books, start with "watch Netflix only for an hour instead of 4." The vacuum thus created will pull your newer agendas in.

In short, in order to focus on something new, you have to focus first on something old. Sounds counterintuitive, but is extremely valuable to know and use.
